Flashlight? Check.
With a little over 3 months until my departure for Ecuador, I’ve started to check off some items from my “Things to buy for Ecuador” list. The list has gotten pretty long so I figured I should start sooner than later. The first purchase? A handy, dandy LED flashlight for $20 equipped with wind-up charger thingy and tons of other wilderness, emergency preparedness features that I can’t seem to remember right now. I also found out that I underestimated the cost of most things that I’ll need to buy. Travel/hiking backpacks are freakin’ expensive! Other items on the “to buy” list include:
- hammock
- Kindle
- new laptop
- digital camera
- waterproof hiking boots
- headlamp
- notebooks, pens, pencils
- warm raincoat
- extra headphones
- sporty type sandals a la Keen brand La Paz, etc
- solar charger
- sleeping bag
- bug net
- pocket knife
- cards, LRC, Bananagrams, other games
- travel alarm
Obviously, I’ll wait until Black Friday/after Christmas for some purchases but for the rest, a trip to Cabelas or order from REI is definitely necessary ASAP. Does anyone who is or has been a volunteer in South America have any other suggestions that I can add to my list? Any things I don’t need that are on my list?
